January 16, 2015 - See what Nugget is going to look like...

I'm going to go ahead and state for the record that I'm hoping our children get Elizabeth's good looks.  How I Met Your Mother taught us that there are reachers and settlers in every relationship.  Three guesses, and the first two don't count, as to which one I am in this situation.

She's quite the looker, I know

We are a pretty easy going couple.  Our biggest concern throughout the pregnancy has been whether or not Nugget will be healthy and happy.  Beyond that, everything else is just cream cheese.  Tall or short, skinny or rotund, goofy or serious, we will love him all the same.

But an interesting trend has popped up on my Facebook feed lately.  Expectant couples are posting pictures of what their future offspring will look like.  A quick Google search of "What will my baby look like?" brings forth over 450,000,000 responses.  At the top of these are numerous sites that promise accurate predictions of what you can look forward to once your little bundle of joy joins your family.  Not to be outdone for this blog, I checked out what these sites were all about.  I'm a curious person, after all, so if other couples out there were getting sneak peeks of their babies, then damn it so was I!

All of the sites were the same.  You uploaded a picture of yourself, and then a picture of your partner.

 The lucky parents-to-be

You select the gender of your baby, and then let the magic of computer simulation run its course.  I did this with several sites.  Here's what they came up with...

According to MorphThing (what an awful name for a website), Nugget is going to look a little something like this:

Not bad, but a little angsty in my opinion.  Come on, Nugget, you've got kickass parents, try to look a little happier!

MakeMeBabies (the first site on the list), had this to say about Nugget's appearance:

Sorry to say this, Nugget, but you've got a Damian thing going on here.  I'm pretty sure that when asked for baby pictures of their spawn, the parents of serial killers could produce some that are very similar to this one.

The last (and my least favorite) picture of Nugget came from Luxand's BabyMaker:

See what I mean about hoping Nugget gets her looks? This is the result when that doesn't happen...

Now I know that all of this is hogwash, and that genetics is something that cannot be predicted from two random pictures and a computer program.  However, it is fun to think about what Nugget will turn out looking like, especially if you don't care all that much about the result.  Will he favor her side of the family or mine?  Will he have her smile (I hope so), and will he have my eyelashes (apparently my nicest feature...so I've got that going for me)?

I'll just have to wait until June to see what happens.  Because I don't want to see any more predictions.  Those sneak peeks are just creepy.
